YOU SHOULD KNOW: The Walkmen

It’s hard to post about the latest/greatest/groundbreaking/just-got-out-of-my-Brooklyn-parents-basement artists out there, so every once in a while, I’ll find people that aren’t in the loop or in love with bands I’ve been listening to for a while. So I know I would appreciate if someone would clue me in to something that’s bringing a smile to their face, so here’s my tip for you, a band by the name of, “The Walkmen”. I’m not going to go into the whole bio of the band and all that, like I said, they didn’t just come onto the scene yesterday, but they DO have a new album out and touring at the moment, so it’s a perfect time to clue you in, if you’re not already.

From one of their blog posts (saves me some typing): “The Walkmen just released their highly anticipated new album exclusively on AmieStreet.com. You & Me will be sold at the special price of $5. For each album purchased AmieStreet.com will donate $5 to Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. Go to www.amiestreet.com/thewalkmen to download You & Me.”

So here’s a great video of the band performing one of their early hits, “The Rat” in Juan’s basement (don’t know who the hell he is, but he’s linked up with Pitchfork). They’re also on tour (and coming to Austin & Memphis, friends!) so please see them if you get the chance, you won’t be disappointed!
